3 Tips For Going To A Dispensary On Vacation

Posted on: 30 April 2019

When traveling to a state with legal marijuana on vacation, you may decide to add a stop to a dispensary or two to your itinerary. For cannabis enthusiasts as well as those who are simply curious about what a dispensary is like, a visit to a dispensary can be a fun way to enhance your vacation. There are just a few pointers to keep in mind to ensure your visit to a marijuana dispensary goes as smoothly as possible:

Know The Rules

While rules for visiting a dispensary may vary a bit by state or city, some things tend to be pretty uniform for all dispensaries. Be sure to bring your driver's license or passport with you, and expect to have it scanned at the front desk before you are allowed into the actual dispensary. Most dispensaries don't allow photos inside, though you are welcome to take a photo or post a video from outside the dispensary.

It's also important to note that even though marijuana is legal where you are visiting, you are not allowed to travel with it back home, so you will want to only purchase what you can enjoy while on your vacation.

Don't Overdo It

Some people find that legal marijuana from a dispensary tends to be stronger than the weed they may have smoked in the past. This is especially true for edibles, which can take an hour or two to fully kick in and tend to be more potent than smoking from a joint or vape pen. If enjoying edibles, be sure to only take the minimum recommended dosage, such as one gummy candy or even a half of a candy. Then, wait an hour or longer for it to fully affect you before deciding to take more.

Don't Assume You Can Smoke in Your Hotel

Just because you're visiting a state with legal marijuana doesn't mean you are allowed to smoke anywhere you'd like. Most states do not allow smoking marijuana in public, and most hotels are non-smoking. As an exception, 420-friendly vacation rentals are popping up all over many cities where marijuana is legal. You can search for them in your favorite vacation rental app. Be sure to double-check the rules though. Some vacation rentals will allow you to smoke from a vape pen only or only on a specific outdoor patio.

By following these pointers and doing a bit of planning, you can truly make the most of your visit to a cannabis dispensary in your vacation destination.
